Overall, the town has experienced a significant change, the most prominent being the construction of a large shopping mall and the transform of the housing in the area. Additionally, the place has become more pedestrian friendly.
In 1990, the center of a town featured a park, a library, and a town hall bordered by Smith, Green, Oldfield, and Newton Streets. The northern side of Smith Street was lined with small specialized shops, including newsagent, grocery store, bakery, butcher, and café, along with a childcare center. To the south, a row of terraced house lined Green Street, while two bank were located on Oldfield Street, directly to the east and opposite the childcare center and town hall.
At present, the line of shops on Smith Street have been replaced by a large shopping mall, while the childcare institution and bank on the corner of Smith and Oldfield Streets remain intact. No changes have been made to the park, library or town hall, yet Smith Street has been closed to vehicles and is now a pedestrian zone. The terraced housing along Green Street has been transformed into apartment blocks, while the bank opposite the town hall has been replaced by a café. Finally, pedestrian crossing has been added to Oldfield Street and Green Street, connecting the town hall to the café and apartment blocks.
