Nowadays, more and more jobs and tasks which involve hard physical work are done by machines. Do the positive effects of this trend outweigh the negative effects?
Recently, the issue of technology development has become a subject of heated debate. Some people assert that automation brings undeniable efficiency to modern industries, while others argue it poses several challenges. I whole heartedly agree with the former stand. In the following essay, both views will be discussed before a conclusion is reached with my opinion.
On the one hand, those who claim that automation causes several consequences do so for several reasons. Proponents of this argument insist that covering blue collar jobs by machines might lead to numerous losses of human jobs and people’s livelihood by replacing manual labor with machines. In other words, it brings severe economic inequality and social issues. Another argument is that it has environmental pollution. To be more specific, automated machines and robots normally work by electricity meaning that surging demand of energy will be needed.
My opinion, however, is that automation makes people’s lives incredibly convenient. Perhaps, the most compelling reason is that it helps employees focus on more creative tasks, resulting in increase of efficiency and productivity since machines alternate repetitive and straightforward work. Another benefit is that automation enhances worker safety by automating hazardous jobs, companies can protect workers from injury. Moreover, by reducing reliance on human workers, companies can cut labour expenses that often strain business budgets. In the light of the above, I fine these more persuasive.
In conclusion, it is undeniable that there are a variety of opinions about this topic. However, after considering this matter in a careful manner, I fully support the view that the drawbacks of automation outnumber the benefits.
