In modern world, companies are more complex and in one company, there are lots of different positions and job descriptions. Some people are more experienced or educated therefore they are employed for senior management positions and are likely to get paid higher salaries. While some argue that all workers put effort and time to the company and they all should be paid equally, I am of the opinion that senior managers should be paid higher relative to other workers, yet when the gap is too large, this may produce negative consequences.
Salaries of people at management positions need to be comparatively higher because it takes a lot of years and effort to acquire the knowledgebase and skills. In order to be employed in a senior management role in a company, you have to have certain qualifications. First of all, you have to be well-educated and successful. For those who have spent their precious years with studying, it is nothing but fair to be paid more when they get into the business world. Otherwise, that is to say if unskilled workers and senior managers are paid the same, managers would have spent all their time and energy for nothing. Besides, senior managers are required to have work experience as well. So, over time, their investments in their career pay off. This is the logic of how modern day careers in every sector. Furthermore, apart from their efforts to get the role, senior managers have bigger responsibilities on their shoulders. They make all the important decisions and they monitor and supervise all activities and employees. Thus, the harder the work is, the higher the salary should be.
However, when managers are paid significantly more than other workers, problems may emerge. In a healthy work environment, all employees need to feel that they are valued and paid fairly. People should acknowledge that senior managers are paid more just because they are more qualified and they do more important jobs. If that is not the case and managers do not work more, skilled workers may feel that they work as much but are paid far less or if the pay gap is far beyond being acceptable, workers may feel that they work only for make a minorlty group in the company richer and eventually they may leave the company. Moreover, having a fairer pay gap is not only beneficial for workers but also for the company. A democratic and egalitarian workplace may motivate all workers, they work more, they do their jobs better then profits increase so that all can earn more.
To sum up, since senior managers have better qualifications such as education and experience as well as having more important and critical roles, it is fair to pay them higher salaries. However, it is also important to motivate other workers and make them feel valued. Therefore the gap should not be too large.
