Recently, it has clearly been a trend that families are eating less dinners together. I will provide reasons for this occurrence as well as possible impacts to people in the future.
Nowadays, working hours and time spent at school are constantly rising due to the competitiveness of our society. This results in people switching to consuming food alone at a convenience store or in a shopping mall as they would be arriving home late and would be too exhausted to cook by themself. Apart from that, the rise of social media have made talking to each other on a dinner tables less crucial as people could send text messages to each other at any time, if they want to chat with a family member. This reduces the necessity of having to consume together every evening.
The obvious impact of this change would be that there would be less relaxation time for people. Despite the rise of technology that allow people to communicate online, the relaxing and amusing conversation while eating could not be replace by phone messaging. The lack of face to face conversation could diminish the morale and reduce the productivity of a working person, which may have a negative effect on their life. Moreover, children would have fewer opportunities to discuss their daily life or ask for advices about a certain problem from their parents. As a result, it would be more likely that children would run into problems without the notice of their guardians, which may lead to a more severe consequences for the child.
In conclusion, less family eating is due to lack of time and greater usage of social media to communicate, which could have a negative effect on the productivity of the adult as well as the well-being of a child.
