The chart below illustrates the precentage of adults using communal transportation methods to get to work in the years 1996 and 2006.
In 1996, Sydney took the lead with 23% of adults using this means of transportation. That was a high precentage compared to Adelaide (14%), Perth (13%), Brisband and Canberra (12% each) and lastly Hobart and Melbourne (11% each).
By 2006, Individuals using public transport methods increased steadily in Sydney (3%), Adelaide (3%) , Brisbane (4%) and Perth (2%). Compared to that, Melbourne showed a more modest growth only increasing by 1% .
However, Hobart and Canberra showed a downward trend in the year 2006. decreasing by 2% and 4% respectively.
Overall, Sydney lead the charts with the amount of adults using public means of transport during both 1996 and 2006. Despite Sydney’s record, Brisbane showed the most positive growth in number in 2006 with a 4% growth range. The city that used communal methods less across the board was Canberra.
