There is a common view that the Olympic Games are now one of the most significant global sporting events, where international unity and cultural exchange are widely shared, while others critisize the event for its high costs and suggest that money shared to its organization can be used for more essential issues. I personally agree with the former opinion for two main reasons.

Those who support the uselessness of hosting the Olympics more argue that money involved in providing them has to be shared to tackle more important problems, including healthcare, education or poverty alleviation. One is that the organizing the Olympic games requires billions of dollars which could otherwise support the various social issues. Costructing houses for those who need them or providing better study environment for children can serve as notable example. Also, many Olympic venues become abandoned or are underused after the event, meanwhile investment could maintain its efficiency.

However, Olympics are an essential tool for boosting a strong coorporation with other cultures and show the ability of own region. The event highlights the unique traditions, values, and achievements of different countries, resulting in the cultural exchange. Plus, the games promote national image and power of the region and this contributes to strength of the pride.

The long term social value of the Olympics can be a second reason, as it outweighs the financial drawbacks. Building a global peace and friendship cannot be measured in economic terms and victory leaves a mark in history. For instance, the recent final football match between two different countries, Uzbekistan and Qatar, whereas the former area hold a lead to the FIFA WORLD CUP and was noticed by major countries.

In conclusion, while the financial costs of the Olympic Games are significant and deserve attention, the event’s ability to bring people together and promote peace are far more valuable. Therefore, I believe that the Olympics are a global celebration that should be continued and supported.
