Metropolitan cities around the world offer various methods of transportation, including taxis, cars, buses, trains, motorbikes, and bicycles. However, the underground railway is the most convenient public transportation option for navigating a large city. I agree that subway systems save a significant amount of time and money compared to other transportation modes.
Due to the dense population in large cities, traffic congestion is a common problem during peak hours. For instance, in Montreal, most people start their work around 7 to 8 a. m. and leave around 3 to 4 p. m. Despite having one of the best transportation infrastructures in the country, the city still faces issues with traffic jams. However, the metro system performs well during these busy hours and helps save considerable travel time.
On the other hand, the cost of traveling by metro is significantly lower than that of other transportation options. For example, the Opus card for the metro systems in Montreal and Toronto provides monthly passes that include bus fares at a relatively low cost. Additionally, there are discounts available for students and senior citizens. Moreover, large cities often have paid parking spaces in downtown areas and other popular locations, which can sometimes cost more than traveling on public transportation.
As a result, I would say that underground railways have a substantial impact on public transport and people’s lives, making them the backbone of metropolitan cities for the middle and lower- class. Additionally, Transition from conventional engines to electric vehicles increasing the role of metro in the future.
