Band 7+: Some ex-prisoners commit crimes after being released from prison. What do you think is the cause? How can it be solved?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In the contemporary world, the phenomenon of recidivism has emerged as a primary concern among the public. This essay will delve into a myriad of plausible reasons before proposing potential actions to tackle the issue.

To begin with, multiple factors contribute to the observed reoffending of criminals. One key rationale revolves around the scarcity of employment opportunities. Admittedly, ex-prisoners often face significant barriers to employment due to their criminal records. This deficiency of opportunities could render financial instability, making crime a tempting option to meet basic needs. For instance, a person who struggles to find a job after release may resort to theft as a means of financial survival. Beyond employment, it should be recognized that societal attitudes towards ex-prisoners can be unforgiving. This stigma might manifest in various areas, including housing, education, and relationships, leading to isolation. The ostracism may lead individuals to associate with former criminal peers, perpetuating the cycle of criminal behavior.

However, a wide range of down-to-earth solutions could be taken to address the problem. First, employment programs and incentives are apt to be provided. This could be achieved by facilitating ex-prisoners’ job training, education, and fostering collaborations with firms willing to cooperate with former offenders. In addition, efforts should be made to reduce the stigma associated with being an ex-prisoner. As a matter of fact, public awareness campaigns can educate the community about the challenges that ex-prisoners face, thereby fostering a sense of compassionate and supportive attitudes. Vietnamese media could be a prominent example: cases of successful rehabilitation are broadcasted frequently, which potentially goes a long way towards shifting public perception and highlighting the potential for changes in former criminals.

In conclusion, it is incontrovertible that recidivism has gained popularity in our society these days, which could be attributed to the lack of employment opportunities and the relentless attitudes held by society towards re-offenders. Nevertheless, a vast array of methods could be undertaken to ameliorate this challenge.
