Band 5: It was predicted that people living in the twenty-first century would have more free time than ever before because of improvements in technology. To what extent has this prediction come true? (User-Written IELTS Writing Task 2 Essay)

It is sometimes believed that advancements in technology are the reasons for the increase of the free time of the people in the twenty-first century. This essay firmly disagrees with this suggestion for several reasons.

The first point given to support my opinion is that the replacement of technology is the urgent problem for labours. The reason is that the existence of the automatic systems help numerous companies optimize their profit and robots do not require any benefits from the companies, such as: the decreasing of work time, growth in salaries and buying insurances for the workers. Therefore, manual labours have to face the inevitable issue, which makes them need to respond to the demanding occupations and work overtime to ensure that they can keep their jobs for a long time. Amazon, for instance, which is knew as a big corporation in logistics, already cut down the budget for the wage of the workers as well as launch the beginning of the unemployment waves in the world. Labour have to enhance their awareness about the influences of technology.

Another reason behind my belief is that a lot of the labors tend to abuse the automatic systems. This action gives rise to the fact that they can lose their skills by relying too much on the automatic systems. In fact, those systems are the achievement of algorithms from programmers and engineers, thereby adapting technology to solve the tasks is the precise way to use, while diminishing labors’ factors in the jobs is the acknowledgement for the loss in the occupations.

In conclusion, I entirely disagree that growth in free time nowadays is the consequence of the improvements of technology given the aforementioned arguments.
