Nowadays, untouched areas worldwide are being explored for oil production, which has increased significantly. There are some benefits, including economic stability, and job opportunities, however, I believe it creates ecological problems.
In terms of benefits, many countries in the world gain a profit from fossil fuels, which leads to the discovery of new reserves. Money from these contributes to increasing the financial status of the country and investing in other industries, which stabilize the economy. Additionally, a notable growth in the number of oil extraction projects in distant places can provide jobs, which in turn enhances social mobility. Hence, creating new jobs can motivate foreign individuals to move from another country. This phenomenon is called “talent migration”, which is essential for economic stability as it helps to attract skilled employees. For example, Azerbaijan’s exploration of new oil reserves created new job opportunities leading to an increase in finance in the country, during the 1990s.
Nevertheless, there are some advantages in the economy, I believe that the concerns should be acknowledged. The first issue arises when new areas are developed, as they require improvements to the infrastructure which can lead to deforestation and habitat destruction. The substantial rise in oil drilling activities in remote areas globally can result in soil contamination, impacting local ecosystems and agricultural land. This pollution can harm farm productivity, and soil fertility, resulting in long-term environmental damage. For instance, Nigeria is one of Africa’s largest oil producers. oil drilling in the distant region has led to significant environmental damage.
In conclusion, while the exploration of oil production can offer significant economic benefits and job opportunities, in my opinion, it is important to mention the ecological problems.
