Band 8+: Some people think that schools should stop teaching students by using books, because students find them boring and that children can learn from films, TV, video games and computer instead. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

As technology is developing day by day, some individuals have started to view books as an unnecessary way of teaching, opting for more enjoyable and efficient methods such as films, TV, video games, and computers. Personally, I am completely opposed to this viewpoint due to the strain it places on students, their performance at school, and their behavior.Initially, we can encounter manifold benefits from using books to teach our students.

Firstly, if we utilize books to teach students, we can enhance not only their academic performance but also their knowledge, which can benefit them in the future. For example, a student who uses a smartphone for studying can easily be distracted by advertisements, messages from friends, and other distractions that have a negative impact on their focus. Secondly, if we make our students use books rather than any devices, we can prevent their brains from being polluted by unnecessary information and help them stay focused. Therefore, if parents set some regulations regarding their child’s use of technology, the desired results can be attained.

However, some critics argue that excessive use of books in teaching can be monotonous for students, making them less interested in reading on paper. Nowadays, youngsters are accustomed to using electronic devices daily. Hence, restricting their use of technology could make them feel bored, and they might be less likely to choose books for learning due to their adaptation to using electronics for various tasks.

To sum up, while critics express concerns about the limitations of technology, the overall benefits of using books are undeniable. Therefore, I maintain that books are of paramount importance in enhancing students’ knowledge and academic performance.
