While some advocates argue that governmental investment in public transport might reduce this issue, others oppose this view and see it as a waste of money. I agree with the former opinion that if the government subsidizes the development of public transport and reduction of the cost of the tickets, this will reduce the dependence on private vehicles, and thus decrease carbon emissions.
To begin with, some environmentalists are calling for reducing the fare of public transport in order to preserve the climate. In other words, when the government reduces the cost of public transport, this will encourage most employees to use public vehicles instead of their personal automobiles, which will minimize carbon emissions. This can be seen in the Netherlands, where it has one of the cheapest bus system in the world, so it has a healthy atmosphere. Thus, it can be said that the government has a crucial role in combating the problem of global pollution.
Furthermore, if the public transport system is improved, this will decline traffic congestion, and a cleaner environment will follow. To explain, this will decrease the number of cars on the roads, which are the major source of greenhouse gases through unnecessary fuel consumption. For instance, according to a study conducted by the USA, car fumes are one of the major contributors to the problem of global warming. Hence, it is advisable to invest more money in infrastructure and improving ticket prices of public transport to mitigate the problem of transport pollution.
In conclusion, after highlighting the aforementioned ideas, it can be reiterated that improving public transport and reducing its prices can address the problem of pollution by decreasing the usage of personal vehicles and traffic congestion. I believe that the government should give more attention to this issue so as to live in a cleaner world.
