The line graph compares the consumption of three types of fast food — hamburgers, fish and chips, and pizza — in Britain between 1970 and 1990.
Overall, the consumption of both hamburgers and fish and chips rose markedly over the period, while pizza became less popular. Initially, pizza was the most consumed item, but by 1990, fish and chips had overtaken the other two to become the dominant choice.
In 1970, pizza led the market with about 300 grams consumed per person per week, followed by fish and chips at around 90 grams, and hamburgers at only about 30 grams. Pizza consumption then declined steadily to roughly 200 grams in 1985, before experiencing a modest recovery to just above 200 grams by 1990.
Fish and chips consumption grew moderately from just under 100 grams in 1970 to around 150 grams in 1980. This was followed by a dramatic surge, reaching 500 grams by 1990. Similarly, hamburgers saw a slow but steady increase to about 90 grams in 1980, after which consumption accelerated sharply, climbing to approximately 300 grams in 1990.
