Some people believe that plastic shopping bags exaggerate terrestrial and marine pollution, so they should be prohibited from the market. I completely agree with this notion because it degrades the land and harms marine life.
Firstly, plastics that are thrown away after their use often remain on the land site for a longer period because it is non-biodegradable products. It releases toxic chemicals that are particularly hazardous to human health and affect agricultural land as well. For example, the productivity of rice in Punjab decreased after the contamination of the land with plastic waste generated from newly opened supermarkets. As plastic materials do not decay over time, the dumping site will be expanded which further exacerbates the clean field, diminishing the productivity of the land.
In addition, a substantial amount of plastic waste is usually discharged near water resources such as lakes and rivers, which flow to the sea. This results in a devastating for marine resources because sea creatures usually consume this waste which remains undigested in their stomach, leading to their death. For instance, dolphins are extinct from the beach of Goa after this area was affected by plastic bags which people used to carry their stuff. Due to this cheap source of material to carry things, people are throwing everywhere near the sea irresponsibly, making the aquatic life severe.
In conclusion, I agree that plastic shopping bags should be forbidden due to the toxicity they produced on the land and marine life. I consider paper bags as a viable option to carry goods instead of plastic bags.
