Nowadays, more and more countries invest art since art becomes the representation of cultural development. Some people regard that art investment is essential, while others believe that money should be utilized on public services and facilities. The essay will elucidate both of these perspectives and my viewpoint. I suppose that government should take first consideration of infrastructure and then art investment.
Some people are strong advocators of art investment for several reasons. First of all, art acts as a function of city decoration. With different art forms like sculptures and paintings, cities can be more beautiful and be attractive to tourists, which promote economy. What’s more, art offers mental support for the residents. By visiting galleries or museums, dwellers can refresh themselves from the previous working pressure and recharge batteries. More art facilities also play an important role in education where students can experience art in person instead of textbooks.
However, some people regarded that money should be utilized in fundamental public service and facilities. It’s obviously reasonable because that are what we rely on every day, from healthcare service like hospitals to public transport facilities like airports or metros. With the subsidiary in infrastructure, dwellers can enjoy better education, more convenient and efficient transport and safer security guarantee, which have immediate effects on people’s lives. Advanced infrastructure construction also serves a function of promoting economy.
In my perspectives, government should assess finance with discretion to decide the budget of art investments. Public services and facilities are more indispensable specially for vulnerable populations, who pay more attention in their living instead of mental treatment.
To sum up everything mentioned above, people who advocate art investment praise its function in decoration and education while others believe that public services and facilities are more fundamental and primary. I suppose that government should take infrastructure as primary consideration.
