The table provides details about the subterranean rail system in six cities, namely London, Paris, Tokyo, Washington DC, Kyoto and Los Angeles.
Overall, Tokyo has the highest number of passengers per year, reaching 1920 million. Paris follows closely with 1191 million passengers. The city placed at the third is London, containing 775 million users annually. On the contrary, Kyoto exhibited the lowest number of users with only 45 million, which is nearly 43 times fewer than that of Tokyo. Los Angeles performed slightly better with 50 million. Washington DC held 144 million.
Being the oldest underground railway system opened in 1863, London has the longest route among all cities, culminating at 394 kilometers. This is almost 2 times longer than Paris and Tokyo, which ranked the second and third, respectively. On the other hand, Los Angeles, though being the newest rail system, has a longer route and more passengers than that of Kyoto.
Generally speaking, it could be concluded that the more historic the railway system is, the longer routes and the more passengers it has.
