It is argued that parents should be blamed for their children suffering from obesity. This essay strongly disagrees with this statement because in many cases obesity is hereditary or is a side effect of a medicine that is essential for the child’s health again children eat whatever junk food, they want in their parents’ absence.
In numerous cases, children cannot control the fact that they are obese due to their genetic predisposition. Parents are unable to change the genes that they pass onto their children, so they cannot be guilty for their offspring being obese. Besides even if parents wanted to help their children maintain a healthy weight, irrespective of their genetic inheritance, there is a chance that they may suffer from other side effects like dizziness, which would further add to the parents’ guilt. In fact, a recent study has shown that approximately 70% of the children suffering from obesity is because of their genetics. Therefore, genetics play a significant role in shaping a child’s body mass and looks.
Consequently, parents are not always around to monitor their children’s diet, specifically when they are at school. It is quite observable that during lunch breaks children prefer to consume junk foods from the cafeteria more than the healthy diets without their parents knowing about what they are eating. Hence, children consume tons of snacks and unhealthy lunch at schools, where their parents cannot control what they are eating. For instance, according to a medical research children’s consume around 30% more than their daily cholesterol requirement when they are at school.
