Advantage And Disadvantage

Band 7+: Some people believe that living in big cities is becoming more difficult. Others believe that it is getting easier. Describe the advantages and disadvantages of living in the city?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

At present, many people are migrating to cities in search of jobs or for a better life. A fraction of society believes that city life is difficult, whereas many others consider it to be easier. Since technology has been rapidly improving in urban areas, providing easier commutation as well as hospitals and necessary medicines readily accessible, I completely advocate the view that city life is becoming easier.

Firstly, it is an irrefutable fact that as humans, we need to travel for a wide variety of needs. In other words, in our daily life, we have to go to different places to either buy groceries, medicines, or for other chores. The development of metro networks and taxi applications in cities has made our lives much easier as we can easily book a cab that will arrive at our doorstep or use the metro to travel to any part of the town faster. Moreover, with the development of e-commerce, deliveries taking place within 30 minutes have made a huge impact on people’s lives. This has reduced the hassle of going out for getting small necessary items, which will now be delivered to your house at a moment’s notice. To illustrate this, “Zepto” can be taken into consideration. They are widely used in India to order last-minute grocery items or snacks, where they claim to always deliver within half an hour.

On the other hand, city life does have some drawbacks. As more and more people are shifting to cities, it has become congested. This is to say that the roads are always blocked, and traffic rules and regulations are not properly maintained by the residents because of the overcrowding. Even though transportation modes have increased, the number of people using these has risen drastically in the past years. You also need to have basic knowledge of modern technologies like the internet and smartphones to fully utilize the available perks of city life. To rephrase this, most elderly people with little know-how on mobile phones won’t find city life enjoyable; moreover, they will find it boring, with no nearby group of friends to chit-chat with like they have in villages. Furthermore, the cost of living in cities is also significantly higher than what you have to spend in villages.

To conclude, city life has its ups and downs. Those who are well-versed with technologies and are living life at a fast pace will find it advantageous and suitable for them. The rest of the people, mostly elders, will find it either boring or difficult. I strongly believe that life in cities will be the future, with more and more places converted to cities with the growth of urbanization.
