In the modern world, many companies and organizations save personal data of their clients and employees on computers. Although it has some drawbacks in terms of privacy concern and data misuse, I still feel this is a positive trend that can result in accessibility and cost efficiency. In this essay, I will discuss both sides in detail.
The two major negative aspects of saving personal data on computers that conduct with many companies and organizations are people’s concern about their privacy and misusing their information. First of all, if companies collect individuals’ information, it can cause individuals to feel uneasy. Access to personal data can lead to a compromise of individuals’ privacy like identity theft and unauthorized access. Misusing people’s information is another serious concern, as some organizations like Daily Market, a famous food organization in my country, ask for personal information of their customers such as their phone number at first purchase and provide them to others organizations for sending advertising messages. Obviously, this act is against persons’ privacy.
On the flip side, storing personal information on computers by companies has some positive aspects such as accessibility and convenience as well as cost efficiency. First and foremost, if the organizations, such as doctors’ offices, save information of patients, it can enable them to have easy access to customers’ information and they do not have to allocate a lot of time to ask patients about their details in every appointment. Therefore, easy access to details can help workers to save time and do these types of tasks conveniently. Secondly, access to data on computers may reduce the companies’ expenses. For instance, companies have to pay some money for buying papers, printing information and prepare a place to store them. Thus, with this approach organizations can avoid these expenses.
In conclusion, while having a storage of clients’ personal information has numerous disadvantages namely, interfering people’s privacy and misusing information, it offers some significant advantages such as accessibility and cost effectiveness. Despite these drawbacks, I believe that the benefits outweigh its downsides.
