The bar chart shows the most common modes of transportation used by people commuting to one university for work or study in 2004 and 2009. Overall, it can be seen that individuals mostly either drove cars or travelled by bus, while the least number of people used trains in both years.
At the beginning of the given period, the most popular mean of transportation was a car, accounting for 51% of the total. However, after the following 5 years, this figure nearly halved and reached 28%, though it still remained popular. With regard to a bus, it was the second most common way to travel, representing 33%, before increasing and making up the half of the chart (46%) in 2009.
Less change was seen in the remaining categories. Initially, there were 16% of individuals commuting by a bicycle, after which this number slightly decreased to 9%. In contrast, both train and walking’s proportions experienced a subtle rise from 3% and 4% to 4% and 6%, respectively.
