Rapid development of technologies is drastically changing all spheres of life. Education is not an exception and, nowadays, tutors tend to use innovative approaches of teaching. Such shift in education helps students to learn how to use modern tools. Nevertheless it has its own disadvantages that have an impact both on students and teachers.
One of the benefits of applying new technologies to educational process is the range of new skills that are learned by students. On the lessons learners not only gain new knowledge about studied topic, but also learn how to use modern technologies. Teachers can give homework that requires to use text and video editors, neural networks, online services. Therefore from the very young age children gain modern computer literacy and during studies they’re becoming capable of useful computer-related skills. Another advantage is that new ways of teaching can lead to a deeper involvement of learners into studies. Teachers can create interactive online boards to explain various topics. Usually such boards contain any media content and visualisations that were not possible to provide in regular textbooks. This novation may increase interest of students in researched topic.
On the other hand application of new technologies can lead to negative consequences too. Traditional lectures trained a skill of being able to pay attention for long-lasting time. Probably absence of lectures could result in underdeveloped attention spans of modern students. And secondly, not all teachers are able to upgrade their qualifications and start to use in their work new technologies due to age, conservatism or other reasons. It does not necessarily mean that they do not know their subject and can not teach it. But if schools work only with technically savvy tutors, then these teachers will lose their jobs and students lose potentially great mentors.
In conclusion, more technological approaches of teaching may improve educational process and give students new significant skills. However, they are not perfect and occurring by them problems of shortening attention span and aging teachers should be solved anyway.
