The pie charts show how water was distributed in five sectors – building industry, household use, manufacturing, food industry and service industry – in Sydney, Australia in a ten-year period starting from 1997. Overall, food industry demanded the most amount of water, while the building industry required the least, regardless of years.
Starting with the highest, the proportion of water used in food industry made up nearly a half (48%) in 1997 and decreased to 41% in the following decade, still maintaining its dominance. The percentage of water use for households accounted for about a fifth initially, and increased only by 2% in 2007.
The water distribution for service industry and manufacturing stood at 13% and 15% in the beginning of the period, after that, the former increased to a quarter while the latter decreased to 11% at the end of the span. As for building industry, this sector used the lowest quantity of water in both years, representing 5% initially and just 2% finally.
