The bar chart illustrates the various types of vehicles that used for commuting to work within a European city in 1960, 1980, and 2000. Overall, while the proportion of car commuters increase, train bus users decrease throughout the given period.
In 1960, car accounted for the lowest figure of commuters, at approximately 6%, whereas it reached its highest point with about an increase of 30% in 2000, surpassing all modes of transport. On contrary, in 1960, the percentage of bus users recorded the highest amount, at just under 40%, yet it experienced a dramatic decrease, falling to 15% of commuters which made it rank in the last place at the end of the period.
The number of train and tube users fluctuated and demonstrated the moderate percentages during the period. At onset, they attracted around 18% and 27% commuters, respectively. In 1980, train users hit its highest point, at about near percentage to that of tube in 1960, excelling the other ways of transportation and showed nearly 22% of commuters in 2000. Tube depicted roughly 4% drop in 1980, however in 2000, it presented a growth, reaching to 25% commuters whilst ranking second after car users of that year.
