In the earlier representation of Bridgetown in 1700, the town comprised of simply a bridge across the river, facilitating access to the southerners The northern section of the town was characterised by a market place, an expanses of woodland and a basically built castle, while arable farming land was predominant to the southeastern portion of the landscape.
Comparing to those features in 1700, Bridgetown was much more urbanised to reflect a broader trends of urban development. In terms of the road layout, the main change was the addition of a bypass road, linking the northwestern corner and the southeastern one, to accommodate increased transportation needs together with the existing railway line from the woodland. The castle was transformed to a school, indicating the importance of education in the modern days.
Overall, the area of Bridgetown shown on the maps was modernised and developed within the three centuries, starting from 1700.
