Band 7+: Some people believe that in the future, most cities will become unlivable due to pollution and overcrowding. Others think technological innovation will solve these problems. Discuss both sides and give your own opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

While some people argue that cities will not be livable in the long run as issues like overpopulation and environmental contamination are persisting, others claim these can be effectively addressed through technological innovation. While both views have merit, I believe that these problems can overcome via advancements in technology.

On the one hand, some argue that cities will not be comfortable for living because of pollution and overcrowding. Proponents claim that the planet might not be able to bear the population boom that is rapidly increasing.

Thus, cities will fail to undergo development because of the imbalance between supply and demand, which in turn leads to overpopulation due to the urbanisation in many areas of the globe. For instance, there is a growing trend of moving into cities from rural areas in many disadvantaged | communities because of an abundance of opportunities for personal growth, making cities cramped and unlivable. The same can be true for pollution of the cities because of an incredible flow of individuals who are not always cautious of environmental issues. However, I think with technological advancements these problems can be tackled and offer sustainable means of living.

On the other hand, others contend these problems can be effectively addressed through technological innovation. In today’s fast-paced world, technology plays a vital role in every aspect of people’s lives, as it does in urban development. To illustrate, given the rise of automation, it has been noticed that in certain countries breakthroughs are being made particularly in the technological field. Robots are partially taking part in the construction of new buildings in rural areas to accelerate the process, replacing human involvement and enhancing the infrastructure in the countryside. Not only is this fast, but businesses report efficiency regarding the quality of new buildings and a wide range of opportunities for all. Similarly, electric cars and new renewable energy sources’ popularity is surging so that air contamination and overall amount of carbon emissions will be lower. This clearly shows that pressing issues such as overpopulation and pollution can be gradually reduced, if not reversed, with the growing technological progress to make cities comfortable places to live.

In conclusion, although cities may not be appealing for some because of overcrowding and pollution, I believe breakthroughs in technological field can handle these problems, creating new opportunities for every individual.
