The bar graph illustrates the proportion of citizens with internet access in four African countries – Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa – between 2000 and 2020.
Overall, it can be seen that South African’s people had the highest percentage of internet access in the three given years. While Kenyan citizens had the least. All countries’ access increases over time, and after 2010, the percentages increase significantly.
In 2000, the percentage of Egypt, Kenya, and Nigeria who had internet access was under 2%. Meanwhile, South African people enjoy internet access; approximately 8% people have internet access. Those percentages increased dramatically in 2010. Around 20% of Kenyan and Nigerian people had internet access at that time. Again, South African people had the highest percentage of internet access, nearly a quarter. Although the proportion of Kenyan people who had internet access rose, but remained the lowest among other countries, accounting for approximately 9%.
In 2020, the percentage of people’s access to the internet significantly increased in four countries and reached its peak. South Africa remained the highest at approximately 55%. The second highest was Egypt approximately half of the total population. Followed by Nigeria, with nearly the same percentage as Egypt, around 50%. However, Kenyan people’s access to the internet increased the most at that time at reached nearly 46%, nevertheless, it has remained the lowest among other countries.
