Smoking in shared common areas like shopping malls, bus or railway stations is prohibited by many nations. I totally support the opinion that individuals who really wish to smoke should leave the public areas. This essay will provide various reasons supporting my opinion along with relevant examples.
The main reason of restricting smoking in common areas is to avoid passive smoking effects. Due to passive smoking non-smokers in the vicinity of an active smoker tend to develop serious health issues like cancers and cardiac problems. For instance, the number of cancer cases increased drastically in Rapur, a small village of India in recent years. Here a small section of population smoked but there was no restriction on smoking in public. As a result of which a majority of non-smokers were also exposed to the ill effects of smoking.
Also, youngers can be influenced negatively when they see the people whom they look up to, smoking in public areas. It’s well-known fact that social media influencers or movie stars have a found impact on their followers who try to simulate their behavior in multiple ways. Hence its only reasonable for the government to impose fines on these celebrities if they fail to follow the restrictions in public areas. For example, Shahrukh Khan, a famous celebrity of India had received numerous legal warnings for failing to comply with the above regulation.
To conclude, common areas accessible to everyone should provide the necessary standards of health and hygiene of the people utilizing it. smoking compromises this standard along with negatively influencing the youngsters, it should be definitely prohibited in public areas.
