It is argued that economic growth should be emphasized by the government rather than other fields in many nations. This issue have advantages and disadvantages. This essay will elaborate on several reasons, followed by rational examples, and end with a logical conclusion.
On the one hand, prioritizing economic growth could decrease poverty. This is mainly because it not only impacts on one sector but also all of the field, including poverty which is structural phenomenon that cannot be solved by one solution but economic growth is the key to tackle this problem. More and more investment from another countries makes the number of ventures increase so it could unveil the opportunity to work for people who unemployed. Many people will work and get high salary so they can hinder themselves from poverty line. Also, infrastructure can be improved by economic growth. Due to the fact that increasing demand from buyers, companies will build new factories across the nation in order to fulfill many requests. Because of that, infrastructure in a country will develop better to become more advanced.
On the other hand, emphasizing on economic growth could cause environmental problem. Rapid industrialization that is done by companies to expand their businesses could lead to deforestation. They will cut trees and alternate land function to make new factories, so that green land will be decrease and the species becomes under the threat. For instance, creating new nickle mining in Raja Ampat will disturb coral reefs and turtle conservation. In addition, to much prioritize on economic growth and neglect other important sectors worsen public life. The most compelling reason is that it could cause other sectors to be left behind, which will affect the way people live entirely. Neglecting the health sector causes people to have poor health, and when they get a serious disease, they are more likely to die.
To sum up, the benefits of put first economic growth above all are reducing poverty and improving the infrastructure. Whereas, the drawbacks are that it makes environmental problems and worsens public life. From the statement above, governments should focus on all sectors to create better life for society.
