Overall, the percentage of part-time workers went up in England, Scotland, and Wales over the period. Whereas, in Northern Ireland, the percentage of part-time workers slightly dropped. Wales had the most part-time workers among the four countries, followed by England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.
The percentage of part-time workers in Wales was about just over 30% in 1980. This figure then rose steadily to reach a peak of almost 35% in 2010. In contrast, in Northern Ireland, the percentage was the second lowest ,which was approximately 15%, in 1980. By 2010, the figure decreased to almost 13%, resulting in the lowest in the United Kingdom.
A particularly notable figure is the rate of part-time workers in Scotland, which soared from around 10% to 20%, marking the highest increase. The growth in the rate of part-time workers in England, which rose from 25% to roughly 31%, was marginally lower than that of Scotland.
