The pie charts show the amount of energy capacity in 2012 and also give prediction for 2030 in gigawatts.
Overall, the total energy capacity is expected to increase by 2030. Fossil fuels will still be the main source, but renewable energy like wind and solar will become more popular.
In 2012, fossil fuels made up the biggest part of energy capacity, at 64%. Other renewables were the second largest with 22%. Nuclear was 6%, while wind and solar had only 5% and 2%. The smallest share came from flexible capacity, just 1%. The total capacity was 5.579 gigawatts.
In 2030, fossil fuels are predicted to fall to 44%, but they will still be the biggest part. Other renewables will fall a bit to 19%, but wind and solar will rise to 12% and 18%. Nuclear will be 5%, and flexible capacity will grow slightly to 2%. The total energy is expected to reach 10.569 gigawatts, almost double the 2012 figure.
