The issue of technological impacts toward human engagement has sparked considerable debate. Although some believe that the advent of many online communication platforms can connect people more closely, others argue that technological advancement promotes isolation among people. This essay will discuss both perspectives before presenting my own view that technology provides an opportunity to create a more considerable interpersonal bond.
Proponents of this view claim that with the internet enhances communication efficiency and practicality. Online meetings, seminars, events, and gatherings are possibly carried with the presence of various smartphone applications, without necessarily being physically present at the same location, thereby saving not only valuable energy but also financial resources. For example, far away friends stay connected either via WhatsApp, Instagram, as well as Zoom. Likewise, collaboration across various sectors is possibly facilitated by online meeting applications, enhancing professional relationship. Furthermore, students benefit from abundant online learning resources, which enable them to access educational contents remotely.
Conversely, others are convinced that digital connection decreases face-to-face interactions, leading to social isolation. This condition is merely caused by the massive immersion of technology to people’s daily lives. A person might be present but he is absorbed in his smartphone, creating soulless connectivity to others. Unfortunately, communications built on social media are superficial that lead to loneliness as minimum physical bond is presented. All in all, I firmly believe that although technology weakens human’s physical engagement, its merits are irreplaceable.
In conclusion, technology escalates global interaction but lessen in person bond. People should see technology as a connecting tool not as a medium that fully controls person to person interaction. By doing so, we can make the most of its functions and gain many benefits from utilizing it.
