In modern times, the drastic growth of the global population is a hotly debated topic which often divides opinions. Many people strongly claim that, currently, it is the gravest issue which the globe has to solve.
There are several contributing factors to the sharp population increase. First, families of the third world are becoming more numerous over the years. This because parents believe that, in this manner, there will be more chances of one of the sons succeeding in life, therefore elevating the social status of the family. Secondly, the quality of live has experienced a significant boost in the last years, owing to improvements in the technological field and advancements in the medical sectors. Life expectancy has surged drastically and now some individuals live for more than 110 years.
Is this problem the most concerning one? It is my vision that this is not. Surely humans should be aware of it, but is not the only issue which we, as a society, must deal with. In the foreseeable future it is highly probable that a nuclear war could explode, and this could have disastrous effects. Furthermore, in the present, severe conflicts already exist and not only they are causing significant deaths, but they are also the reason for the upgoing trend of migration. This last is provoking varying economic crisis. Lastly, we are in the epoch of the advent of artificial intelligence. The work sector will be undoubtedly affected by this state-of-the-art technology. Humanity should focus on controlling the AI’s evolution, otherwise severe consequences could occur, as a rise in the poverty incidence.
To conclude, diverse stressors are causing the shocking heightening of the global population number, as bigger families and an enhanced living condition. Nevertheless, it is not the only crucial problem of humanity, therefore, worldwide governments must devise new strategies to avoid catastrophic consequences.
