Nowadays, the elderly population is growing in many countries around the world. There could be a variety of causes for this phenomenon, which could have both positive and negative consequences in the community. However, I absolutely agree that a rising number of elderly people in society will have more drawbacks.
When the percentage of old people has increased, the lack of qualified labour force for economic activities will also increase. When elderly people retire, the young labour force will not be enough to fill jobs in many fields. This can lead to fewer people in the working-age population to fill jobs. Moreover, young people also do not have enough experience to deal with challenges at work, so they will tend to be fearful and not want to go to work. Therefore, the lack of labour force for economic activities in society increasingly grows.
Besides, older people may cause exhaustion of national resources. When people age, they often require more medical care, including hospital visits, medication, and specialized treatments. This can put pressure on healthcare systems and government funds. Additionally, some elderly people require nursing homes or certain services, which require significant financial investment. Therefore, governments have to invest in facilities and infrastructure to meet their demands. This can lead to damaging national resources.
On the other hand, old people are treasures of knowledge and experience, which can be passed down for many generations. Elderly people experience many real-life situations and face different challenges, so they already accumulated experience and knowledge for themselves. From there, they can mentor and give advice for younger individuals, helping pass down values and lessons learned over a lifetime.
In conclusion, although the older generation plays a crucial role in young people’s lives, they also cause serious problems for the government related to economic burdens. Therefore, when the proportion of older people increases, many social problems will arise and put pressure on society and government.
