Traditional attires and dresses are very effective in ensuring that we are connected with our past because it is a direct embodiment of our culture and in alignment with the preferences of our ancestors.
Traditions are often a reflection of the culture of a particular region. It is formed through a collection of elements and practices which have been widely accepted and practised by a major portion of the population in a region over an extended period of time. Dresses and attires are a key part of this tradition and consequently when we wear and encourage traditional outfits, we are directly promoting the preferences and the practices of our ancestors in the past.
On the contrary, though traditional dresses serve as key reminders of our roots, there are many other aspects of our culture that help us connect more with our ancestral ties. One particular method is to actively practise and promote our local language as it is probably the most direct link between us and our forefathers. Speaking the tongue that our ancestors spoke helps us channel the past and stay more connected with it. With the advent of globalization, these local languages are often being overshadowed by more global languages like English which is why it has become more important than ever to actively speak and promote our local dialects.
In conclusion, whilst wearing traditional clothing is a powerful way to demonstrate the connection with our past, we must also actively promote other elements of our culture like our local language to truly maintain ties with our past.
