Band 6: AI and it's potential - is it good or bad? (User-Written IELTS Writing Task 2 Essay)

Technological advances have given rise to artificial intelligence or what is often called AI. This AI has sparked widespread debate in the public regarding its benefits and consequences in society. On the one hand, many people support the existence of AI, that AI helps and offers many benefits. But on the other hand, many people also reject the existence of AI because of concerns about AI misuse. In my own opinion, AI is indeed useful nowadays, but behind it all there are still many shortcomings and risks that must be borne.

On the one hand, society that supports AI provides benefits from AI. For example, in the field of education, AI can help students do and explain their assignments and get inspiration from it. This can help students understand material they don’t understand because AI usually provides a more complete explanation. Likewise in other fields. Many people are using AI to help them. AI offers efficiency, speeds up and simplifies things so that they are easier to understand and get. AI can also help people to be more creative, as nowadays there is AI that can create various images.

On the other hand, there are also many people who still cannot accept AI. They criticize AI that AI raises concerns. For example, in the economic sector, people can lose their jobs because many sectors have been replaced by AI. AI can also be misused by irresponsible people. This can impact many people. Apart from that, AI can threaten to lose our privacy due to such misuse.

For me, AI has many advantages that can help us. AI is more efficient so it is easier to use. However, behind all of that, AI still has many shortcomings and negative impacts, such as the potential for loss of privacy and misuse. AI can also replace people’s jobs and cause many people to lose their jobs.

In conclusion, even though AI has many benefits, we should not underestimate its negative impacts either. We can utilize AI to help us in terms of education, productivity, services. However, we also have to be wise in using AI and protect ourselves from experiencing its risks.
