Band 8+: You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic: In many countries, primary and secondary schools close for two months or more in the summer holidays. What is the value of long school holidays? What are the arguments in favour of shorter school holidays?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In many regions, certain educational institutions close schools for several months during the summer holidays. From my point of view, students can greatly benefit from this time off, as it provides them with the opportunity to engage in various activities during their free time.

The primary reason for having extended holidays is that they allow students to focus on their hobbies, as their schedules are less hectic. Often, kids are involved in extracurricular activities after classes, leaving them too exhausted to pursue their interests. I speak from experience; during last summer, I prepared for my future exams and organized my plans in a way that prevented overworking. In other words, children can delve deeper into their true interests without worrying about grades at school.

Another reason for my viewpoint is the need for rest after approximately ten months of challenging work. Just as adults require a break after a full day at work, children also need downtime after learning new information every day. Moreover, as they are still growing, their bodies require more rest. Thus, holidays are essential for their physical and mental well-being, which can help reduce the risks of depression and other issues.

While I believe there are many benefits to long holidays, I acknowledge that it can be challenging for parents to care for their teenagers during this time. In most families, both guardians work during the summer months, making it difficult to find someone to supervise their children. Additionally, not everyone has relatives they can rely on for assistance. In this situation, the government should consider providing specialized centers to help meet these needs.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that long school holidays offer more advantages than disadvantages for students. However, I recognize that this can pose challenges for their families. Therefore, I hope that countries will implement solutions to address this issue.
