It is often argued that same people tend to imitate one another, which can be observed in the popularity of fashion trends in clothing and consumer goods. I strongly agree with this statement, as social influence and the desire for acceptance significantly shape individual’s choices.
One major reason why people copy each other is they want to express themselves to society by trying out trendy clothes and they want approval of others. Human beings love being accepted by society, and center of attention to achieve this, they just copy each other. For example, when a particular fashion item is being popular, and being used by many, people immediately want to try them even though, they have got no idea what is the original purpose of that product. Young people tend to be the participants of this phenomenon, because, they are easily influenced by their peers and celebrities.
Another contributing factor is the powerful role of media and advertising. Social media platforms and influencers constantly promote certain brands and lifestyles, persuading people to reach perfect life or status after the use of that product, and people fall for this trend without doubt, in favor of obtaining what they want. For instance, if there are people who are struggling to express themselves in fashion field, and there is an application advertisement which teaches them how to dress up, people automatically fall for this and download the app without second thought.
However, there is a group of people who do not blindly follow trends. Some people value the originality and prefer to be uniquely fashioned. Nonetheless, even this people are often influenced indirectly by broader cultural movements.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that the human tendency to copy others id clearly reflected in fashion and consumer behavior. Social pressure, media influence, and the desire for acceptance are the main drivers behind this widespread phenomenon.
