Students should bear the full cost of their own education because university education mostly helps the individuals instead of society. I partly agree with this statement because while individuals gain personal benefits, society also achieves advantages from higher education.
Firstly, university education provides personal advantages. Students who attain a higher education can access better opportunities. For instance, they may get high-paying jobs, becoming professionally successful. This success means they can achieve a better standard of living, and fulfill their personal goals. Therefore, it appears reasonable for students to pay for these advantages since they primarily benefit themselves.
On the other hand, society also gains from individuals having a university education. Educated people contribute to society in various ways. They work in areas like medicine, engineering, and education which benefit the whole community. Moreover, these people pay taxes which help fund public services and infrastructure. In this way, the overall society becomes more prosperous and improved by their contributions.
In conclusion, while it is correct that university education provides individual benefits leading to better personal growth, it is also true that society gets important benefits from educated individuals. Therefore, I believe that both individuals and society should share the cost of higher education.
