There is an ongoing debate whether the influence of social media is improving global communication or it is detrimental for real-life relationships. From my perspective I partially agree with both aspects of the statement due to the fact that digital communication might be useful if it is in balance. Both sides of the argument, as well as my opinion, are going to be discussed in the following essay.
On the one hand, social media connects billions of people around the world allowing them to share information regardless of their location. This means that individuals can find like-minded people to achieve goals more efficiently as being in the right place at the right time is not a big of luck anymore. To state an example, in recent decades a wide range of various messengers such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord are available for anyone having a device with the Internet connection. As a result, arrays of new, previously unavailable options are accessible now due to social media integration in life, not only in terms of entertainment but also services and new job perspectives.
On the other hand, there are certain disadvantages of social media which the majority of people are exposed to. One major problem is total distraction caused by constant information noise, specifically short videos. For instance, It is fairly easy to notice crowded bus passengers’ standing or sitting attention being captured by their smartphones. Social Media is just/simply a tool and how it is used depends only on a particular person. In most of the cases, individuals use/employ it primarily consuming entertaining content, absolutely missing opportunities it provides.
To conclude, I partially agree with both points of view. Considering the first statement, Social media can connect people across the globe, but it is not necessarily in a good way. Considering the 2nd statement, Social media apps can aggravate people’s ability to focus, however every user has freedom of choice, meaning nothing is mandatory, so, the result depends on their decision.
