Positive And Negative

Band 8+: Some people dislike changes in their society and in their own lives, and want things to stay the same. Why do some people want things to stay the same? Why should change be regarded as something positive?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Many times it is seen that people resist change and find comfort in their current environment. They find familiarity not only in the place they live but also continue the same in their way of living. This essay will further discuss the reasoning behind this kind of behavior.

One of the primary reasons some people do not prefer change is due to the fear of uncertainty. The thought of how a particular thing or habit might result when subjected to change is a major cause to be reluctant to change things around them. For example, this can simply be rules or notions which are followed by society for ages. Only because they feel familiar and safe, they aren’t questioned or proposed to change. The other example could be if an individual is renting a place in a very convenient neighborhood, they might get comfortable living there for years and avoid exploring other areas.

Another reason is some people can be lazy or lack motivation in life. Many individuals are often swamped by so many responsibilities that they may start feeling mentally fatigued. They are so much indulged in their routine that even the smallest change in it can make them feel their whole schedule is disrupted. Something very similar to this situation can also be due to being lazy. Changing something requires effort. If someone is lethargic and enjoys the comfort of how things are functioning around them, then they too are avoidant in bringing change.

Whatever could be the reason to resist, it is very important to understand that change is necessary. Like how we have different seasons and different occasions, it is seen that change always brings variety. It can be in our personal life or changing things in our surrounding; it can uplift our mood and improve our functionality. Often the smallest change can cascade into having the biggest impact.

To conclude the discussion, I feel there are various reasons to not welcome change; they can be on a level affecting an individual in their personal life or society, but it is crucial to understand why change is important and that its benefits bring positive change in life.
