News is an integral part of lives of many individuals nowadays. This essay will discuss why news plays such a vital role in our routine and why we hear bad news more frequently, rather than something positive.
Some of the most common reasons why news is so irreplaceable are that we cannot simply live without it and we are too used to being aware of everything happening in the world. To begin with, I believe it’s natural, that humans want to know the most recent updates. First of all, it’s a question of survival. People can’t imagine living without “fresh” information about wars, crime, or the spread of disease, because if you are aware of the current situation, you can plan your actions better to protect yourself and your beloved ones. We’re addicted to knowing everything, and it drives us crazy, when we are stuck without knowing what’s happening. Just try making a day of digital detox and you are most certainly going to experience anxiety from not hearing the updates.
It’s an open secret, that most of news we hear or see are considered “bad”. It doesn’t necessarily mean that our world is breaking down (even though sometimes it does seem to be true). The job of a journalist involves not only giving insights on an actual situation, but also to give people what they are interested in the most. And although it sounds strange, it’s very true to life. Humans don’t want to spend hours in front of the TV waiting for all news to be mentioned. They are concerned about something they call “serious”: economics, politics, finance. We are waiting for some key events, that will make us make day-to-day decisions. Of source, hearing about pandas being born or glaciers stopping to melt is a big pleasure. But our brain instantly thinks, that such problems are already solved, and we should better get to work on something unprocessed. So, I consider showing more good news instead of bad very ineffective.
In conclusion, news is a very inalienable part of our lives. It is what makes us aware of what we should do, in order to successfully continue our existence on this rapidly changing planet. And as for bad news, it’s not tragic that we see lots of it. Good news is just something we cannot continue working on. Our nature wants progress, and this happens by changing the situation ourselves, and this requires being aware of bad news.
