In the current race to academic achievement, more and more students choose to study in foreign countries. Some opponents think that this trend is beneficial to both children and their country, while critics show that it may be concerned certain risks. In my opinion, I partly agree with the positive view for several reasons.
Firstly, studying abroad offers suitable conditions for students, especially for those have self-learning ability and passions in academics. Foreign curriculum is a mixture of doctrine, provided by elite professors and teachers, which creates a significant advantage when compare to local students. For example, professors Ngo Bao Chau is one of the most successful mathematicians in Vietnam, although he had some noticeable math research in Vietnam, most of his achievement was developed in foreign countries. Thanks to high-quality math resources and intellectually stimulating environment, he was accomplished his theory in Langlands program and won the most prestigious award in his career, the Fields. Next, pursuing education overseas can foster practical skills, social life experiences such as communication, problem-solving skills and cooking skills, which will be useful throughout their entire life. At the same time, host countries not only receive economics benefits from students staying in their country but also enhance their own country by welcoming back graduates with professional networks and perfect skills set.
On the other hand, studying in a foreign country may carry many potential risks, including both physic and mental health. For instance, most of international students share that they have to deal with several mental health issues, which largely caused by different life conditions and immense pressure. If students cannot maintain healthy lifestyle, it will lead to mental illnesses like depression and anxiety. Unless these issues can be solved, going overseas for academic purposes may have counterproductive consequences.
In conclusion, while studying abroad can raise unexpected drawbacks, I firmly believe that the benefits are outweighing the disadvantages as it can result in substantial growth of personal skills and qualities.
