Weddings around the world are becoming more massive and require a higher amount of budget. This essay will argue that this is due to rapid increase of popularity in social media posts about weddings content, and overall it is an adverse trend.
One explanation for more lavish weddings is that people are really influenceable creatures, and by seeing others who are doing really massive events for their special days, they have a desire to experience a similar, fairy-tale moment, driven by perfect social media posts on platforms like Instagram and Pinterest. For example, Instagram and Pinterest made unrealistic standards of decor and attire. Couples feel pressure to replicate the floral walls and multiple outfits for one night real, and it significantly affects the final cost.
I believe this trend is harmful rather than useful, because by trying to make the marriage more huge it also needs the revenue of the upper middle class or even higher. Moreover, people who can’t afford it, despite that fact, organize the marriage with a budget which is larger than their income, and this will lead to a loan. Due to that, their quality of life will decrease in a rapid way. For instance, recent research found that every second newlyweds can not afford a house for the next 7 years, because of expenses on marriage.
In conclusion, weddings start to require a huge amount of money and get more luxurious because of popularity in social media, and, in my opinion, it is influencing in a negative way.
