The table compares the number of people who worked in different jobs in 2015 and 2025, with their projected changes.
Overall, the number of employees increased in every job sector, whereas the cleaner sector was the only category, which saw a decline over the period. Professors accounted for the largest workforce in both years, making it by far the dominant category. In addition, hospitality experienced by far the greatest percentage increase.
Looking first at the occupations with the highest employee numbers, the figure for professors rose from 2,785,000 in 2015 to 2,868,550 in 2025, an increase of 3%. Meanwhile, the number of workers in the retail trade sector climbed marginally from 1,785,000 to 1,847,474, representing 3.5% growth. Similarly, the figure for education recorded an increase from 1,475,000 to 1,534,000, equivalent to 4%.
Turning to the remaining job sectors, the figure for hospitality increased from 1,235,000 in 2015 to 1,333,000 a decade later, resulting in the highest percentage rise of 8%. Likewise, the number of office managers grew from 1,115,000 to 1,170,750, with 5% growth. However, the figure for cleaners experienced a decrease from 1,321,000 to 1,221,000, with a 1% decline.
