In some countries, retired, unemployed and other citizens who are unable to work due to health issues are provided financial aid from governments. On the other hand, it is families who help those individuals. Although the former system alleviates inequality and poverty in the country, this essay believes that the latter system works better because it provides emotional support.
The act of providing people who do not have jobs with money is justified by the authorities’ concerns about the condition of each citizen and thus the overall well-being of the country. Allocating a solid proportion of funds to provide pensions means that every person irrespective of their work status or health conditions will have equal possibilities, which can solve the problem of inequality and poverty. For example, disabled individuals in Kazakhstan have a lot of social benefits, such as free use of public transport and a stable income received from the government, the amount is enough to meet minimum living needs. However, this may discourage workers from climbing their career ladder and give enough incentives to quit their workplaces. The government has to moderate this problem carefully to maintain the balance between helping vulnerable people and not disturbing other people.
The second system is when domestic units help their disabled, unemployed members by giving not only resources to live but also by providing mental support. In this case, vulnerable people feel free to express their emotions, feelings, and thoughts because there will be their relatives who will assist them regardless of their conditions. The person may be unemployed because of serious psychological diseases, such as deep depression or disordered thoughts, and the only ones who will be able to provide basic empathy, which is genuinely imperative, are close family members, especially mothers. Compared to the governments’ financial support system, this one works better because a vulnerable person is supported not physically but also mentally. It means they will less from their conditions, and the inequality between them and other people is prone to being dissolved.
In conclusion, in some countries, governments are responsible for their retired, unemployed, and disabled citizens because it enhances the social condition within the nation. In other countries, families take this duty, and this way works better because it considers both the physical and psychological health of those individuals.
