Band 7+: After graduation many students take a year to travel. Some think that it would be more useful to work for a year. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Taking a gap year off between high school and the university become a popular choice for many students. There is a common way of how they spent this time, such as travelling overseas, volunteering or even working. My firm conviction is that this statement is sensible for several key reasons.

One reason why this statement is sensible is that traveling broadens perspectives. Having a year off from studies encourages students to travel more. Traveling exposes young people to different cultures, traditions, and ways of life, making them more open-minded. Another factor to consider is that by travelling, students become more independent and adaptable. Looking at the students who have already taken a year off and travelled to other countries. Their independence and adaptability improve significantly. For example, a friend of mine, who went on a similar journey, faced problems with arranging accommodation, planning transportation, and dealing with unexpected flight delays. Overcoming these challenges without relying on parents helped him become more independent and adaptable.

Another reason why this statement is sensible is personal growth and maturity. Travelling teaches life skills that cannot easily be learned in schools. More and more students, nowadays, are less willing to solve problems independently. Travelling, however, encourages students to solve some unexpected problems while managing their time and money. One more advantage of travelling after graduation is that students can improve their language skills. Living abroad allows students to practice foreign languages in real-life situations. A student spending several months in Spain is likely to improve Spanish much more than through classroom learning alone.

In conclusion, I firmly agree that students should spend a gap year traveling rather than working. Such an experience not only broadens their understanding of different cultures but also helps them become more independent and adaptable. Therefore, taking a gap year to travel is a worthwhile investment in their personal growth and future development.
