One school of thought holds that university education should be accessible to everyone without tuition fees regardless of their financial background. Personally, I partly agree with this statement based on some reasons that are explained in this essay.
Because education especially the university plays a pivotal role in shaping people’s future, there are several benefits if every individual can access to university eduation. One major advantage is that they can gain more opportunities to broaden their horizon such as learning with advanced knowledge, experiencing training program, and even competing with their peers coming from numerous backgrounds. As a result, they can not only enhance their personal development and achievements through a variety of real-life experiences but also open their future careers. For instance, a lot of professional companies today require university qualification such as technology or medicine, meaning that a student who wants a good income needs graduate university to meet their criterion, or learners who are born in low-income families can also break the cycle of povery by professional progress.
On the other hand, the drawbacks of funding for every student tuition fees are extremely pronounced. The most noticeable disadvantage is that providing free university fee can come with the expense of overloading government’s budget. By raising funds for all of learners throughout the country, the governments may not balance the allocation of money between schools and other essential public services such as recreational areas, health services, and the transportations. As a result, the quality of life in a country may decrease while just only school field is dominant. Furthermore, it can cause a risk of students taking university for granted and not appreciating what they get. Due to natural characteristics, humans often do not prioritize what they can get free. Thus, the money government spent for them will become a salt of ocean.
In conclusion, while there is irrefutable that university plays a pivotal role in enhancing people’s life, I still reckon that the government should strike a balance between funding tuition fees of the university for certain individuals. Additionally, provided that a student takes responsibility and appreciation for their learning, I believe that university education can be completely free for them.
