The question of whether people should work remotely or visit office to promote company’s culture is highly debated. While there are contrasting views about the workers physical presence at the workplace, I largely support the idea that employee should have the option of remote work as it offers various benefits.
The remote work, on the first hand, offers great flexibility to employees. People who have the facility of working from home often strikes a right balance between their personal and professional lives. This practice not only improves their overall productivity, but also have positive impact on their mental health. Furthermore, working from home also drives financial benefits for the people. People can save considerable money if the do not have to commute to workplace on daily basis. These extra funds can be allocated to pressing matters. For example, in a city like London, the average cost of daily commute per person is recorded as £10 a day, which is roughly equal to hourly wage rate in the UK.
Acknowledging that employees working from home enjoy several benefits such as work-life balance and financial gains, the employers perspective on this cannot be overlooked. Organisations often prefer that their workers should regularly visit offices to enhance the company’s work culture. They believe in-office persence of people is crucial, as not all the roles can be performed remotely. For example, a position of IT support engineer require the physical availibility of resource, as they mainly assist users with the technical issues.
In conclusion, although organisations ideally like their employees to visit workplaces, the benefits of working from home culture cannot be overlooked. If employers were to enhance the company’s collaboration and improve their work culture, they would need to take measures such as including hybrid working clause in employee’s contract to make sure their availability in the offices.
