Determinating how much we should be taxed generates different opinions. On one side, it is believed that taxes must be almost inexisting so as people can decide on their earnings. On the other side, it is argued that paying higher taxes is crucial to afford public services. It is my opinion that taxes are important for ensuring the public good. However, they should be paid according to taxees’ financial situation.
A major sector strongly think that taxes are unfair since they reduce people’s freedom on deciding how to spend their own salaries. Therefore, taxes should be minimum. Every month, governments take a part of people’s earning without considering their particular financial situation. Most people have different spendings that make part of their standard of living. They must have access to most part of their salaries, not only to pay for their bills but also because it is their right.
Conversely, taxes are important to maintain a wide range of public services. These services cooperates towards a more organized society were schools, hospital and public facilities count on funding to work properly. This aspects of social life are beneficial for every individual and therefore, they are obligated to contribute.
In my opinion, taxes should be charged according to the income perceived. By doing this, every person would contribute to the funding of public services while keeping the main part of their salaries. Taxes should not affect our quality of life, on the contrary, they are a tool for improve it.
In conclusion, the percentage of taxation must consider individual’s financial situation so they can use their income freely. However, every citizen must contribute to the public good by paying taxes.
