The excessive use of energy by humans in the past century has had catastrophic consequences for themselves and the environment. After conducting huge researches the scientists have concluded that the most effective measure for stopping this destructive process is to reduce the energy usage, but most people have not taken this matter seriously and are still dissipating huge sums of energy in their daily lives.
Nowadays the effects of excessive consumption of energy are quite visible in our environment, the polar ices are melting, the jungle fires are increasing and many animals are on the brink of extinction due to environmental disasters. All these catastrophes are happening and the humankind is being merely a spectator, without taking any serious action. The scientists have warned us about the unrepairable damage that we are causing to the nature and our environment, and have offered practical solutions to us, but the people are too ignorant and too arrogant to understand the level of the upcoming danger. Instead of trying to fix our wrongdoings we are just continuing to our toxic lifestyle without giving a thought to our actions’ consequences. The main reason that the people do not choose a healthier lifestyle is their arrogant, because they are not willing to reduce their convenience tools. The second reason is that the people are ignorant and are not understanding how serious this danger is.
Just as I said, ignorance and arrogance are the reasons that people do not change their lifestyles, so in order to make them take healthier lifestyles, we have two courses of actions available. The first option is to spread awareness about the environmental hazard and tell them about the consequences. This process can be done in various forms like making documentaries and writing articles on the internet or in the newspapers, but the most effective method would be to teach students at school about it. Although this process would take longer than the others, but this is the most effective process as children are at their learning stage of their lives and once they understand the importance of conservative use of energy, they will keep this matter in their mind for their whole life. The second course of action would be to put heavy extra charges on excessive usage of energy, just like I saw in Iran where the government sold the petrol to everyone at a discounted price for the limited amount usage, but if more petrol was used, the extra petrol would be priced three times more expensive. This course of action is much more effective for those who do not hesitate in excessive usage of energy out of arrogance.
In the conclusion, we must make people understand the consequences of wasting energy, as it is our duty to keep our environment clean and habitable. We have responsibility towards other animals and also the future generations, and if we neglect our responsibilities, we will have to pay a hefty price for it.
